Debbie Spellman, 67, of Prospect Avenue, passed away at her home on June 17th, 2017.
Debbie was born Aug. 30th, 1949, to William T. Spellman and Mary Louise Davis Spellman. She graduated from St. John's High School in 1967 and many years later went to Clinton Community College and graduated with high honors. She was retired and worked at the L&M and at the Econo Lodges for the Carpenter family for many years.
She was known as "Miami Deb" because she was an extreme Miami Dolphins and NY Yankees fan. Debbie was an avid reader and history buff. She loved every kind of animal. She loved playing cards/poker and going on trips to the Casino. Debbie was a babysitter for many families of Plattsburgh throughout her life. She loved children and treated them all like they were her own, especially the Cogan's, Chris, Carla and Kevin. She loved her family and friends unconditionally. She was known to "do anything for anybody." She had a very giving heart and was very much a people person.
Debbie is predeceased by her father, William T. Spellman, her mother, Mary Louise Spellman, one niece, Kellie Spellman, her dear cousin Elizabeth "Betty" Kelly and her pride and joy, Mr. Magoo, her pure bred Pekingese.
Debbie is survived by her three brothers, William (Fuzzy) Spellman and his wife Bonnie of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Patrick Spellman and his wife Tina of Dannemora, N.Y., and Michael Spellman of Ogdensburg, N.Y.; three nieces and one nephew, including Megan Spellman, was her (like a daughter) niece that lived with her for the last three years and took amazing care of her; and three great-nieces and three great-nephews. Also surviving is her best friend for 53 years, Carol J. Cogan-Smith. Carol and Debbie had a beautiful friendship. They loved each other like sisters. They spoke on the phone almost every single day for 53 years.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Elmore SPCA.
