Mr. Daniel E. "Danny" Willett, 87, of Route 22, Beekmantown, entered into eternal life, Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility with his loving family by his side. He was born in Ellenburg Center, N.Y., on Jan. 18, 1930, the son of Charles and Viola (LaBombard) Willette Sr. Danny attended Ellenburg School and later joined the U.S. Navy from January 1951 to November 1954, serving in Cuba during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Diamond International where he was a pipe fitter. Danny enjoyed bowling, traveling, playing cribbage at the mall with his buddies and all sports. He was an avid New York Yankee fan until Derek Jeter retired. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Frank, Gerald, Albert, Charles, Ransom; his sisters, Beatrice Willette and Angeline Lafave.
Danny is survived by his wife of 63 years, the love of his life, Rena C. (Gero) Willett of Beekmantown, whom he married on May 5, 1954, at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks, N.Y. He is also survived by four daughters, Sharon Watkins of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and her husband Phillip, Bonnie Sponable of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and her husband David, Judy Fitzpatrick of Riesel, Texas, and her husband Dean, Diane Masella of Champlain, N.Y., and her partner Julie Hastings; a sister, Mabel Penz of North Tonawanda, N.Y., a brother, Nelson Willette of Great Falls, Mont., and his wife Joy; his grandchildren, Nathan and Corey Birkemeyer, Hillary Sponable, Alex Willett, Daniel Fitzpatrick, Krista Kaloides; two great-grandchildren, Alayna and Sutton; several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks, N.Y. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery Mooers Forks, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, masses may be said in his memory.
