Dale's Story

Dale L. McMahon, Master Sgt. Ret., age 61, lost his battle to cancer on Dec. 9, 2016, at his home in Lakeland, Fla. Dale was born in Tupper Lake Hospital in New York, the son of James and Evelyn (Poulon) McMahon on Feb. 18, 1955.
Dale graduated from Newcomb High School and entered the U.S. Air Force in 1974. He was Honorably Discharged in 1976. He was a member of the National Guard from 1980 to 1982 and transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves where he served from 1982-2007. He served in Iraq from 2004-2005. He retired after 30 years of service at the rank of Master Sgt. He also worked for Franklin County Highway Department and retired as Bridge Foreman after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (Sears) (Rice) McMahon; four children and their spouses, Christopher McMahon and his wife Jennifer, Mrs. Theodore (Christina) VanHeuverzwyn, Mrs. B. Anthony (Elizabeth) Barlow, and Edwin Rice Jr. Dale and Joan loved and enjoyed ten grandchildren.
Dale also leaves his father, James McMahon, two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. David (Patricia) McMahon and Mr. And Mrs. Percy (Debbie) McMahon. He also leaves two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lee (Donna) Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce (Doris) Allen. He had an additional sister-in-law, Debra Sutherland and two additional brothers-in-law, Ronald Sears and Walter Rizzie. He leaves a father-in-law, John (Dick) Adams; however his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Rizzie Adams, died shortly after his death. He is also predeceased by his mother, Evelyn. He had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless loving friends.
Dale was a lifetime member of the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Affairs. He was past commander of the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He enjoyed building, creating and making loved ones happy.
A memorial service is planned for late spring and his final internment will be in Bushnell National Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.
