Text size

Clarence R. Gonyea, 68, of Schuylerville, formerly from Plattsburgh, N.Y., passed away April 8th, 2017, at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by loved ones.  Clarence was born Nov. 20, 1948, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 - 1970 and worked at Rosebud Creamery then Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Rouses Point, N.Y., until he retired early to care for his wife full-time. Clarence was a devoted and loving husband to Sheila. They were married for almost 45 years, the last 35 of which he cared for Sheila, who had Parkinson's disease, until he could no longer help her due to his own health issues with COPD. He fully believed that he was put on this Earth to take care of her, leaving this world 10 days after her. He was a loving father to his daughters, Stephanie and Kathleen. Everything he did was to provide for his family and his family is deeply grateful to Kathleen and James for the care they provided both Clarence and Sheila this past year. Clarence loved riding his motorcycle, talking with friends on the CB and his ham radio under the call name "Peanut," and watching NASCAR and the New York Yankees. He was a friend and confidante to his bothers and sisters, always there to help family and friends with projects and moving
Clarence played cards with Sheila nearly every day for many years as her health declined. He did the cooking, shopping, housekeeping and yard work chores while caring for her.
Clarence is survived by his daughters, Stephanie (Alan) Koontz of San Antonio, Texas, Kathleen (James) Stone of Schuylerville, N.Y., grandchildren, Jessica Allstott, Leah Allstott, Conner Allstott, all of San Antonio, Texas, Austin Stone, and Colette Stone of Schuylerville, N.Y., and great-grandson, Calvin Samley of San Antonio, Texas.  Also surviving are his sisters, Theresa (Alan) Goodman of Mooers, N.Y., and Rita (Jim) Davis of Plattsburgh, N.Y., brother Larry Gonyea and fiancee Sue Tyler of Schuyler Falls, N.Y., sisters-in-law, Cathy (Bob Hunt) Rock of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Wanda (Tony) Wuerzinger of Chesterfield, Mich., brothers-in-law, Albert (Gaby Krieg) Gonyo of Roseville, Mich., Elrick Gonyo and husband Frank Hui of Austin, Texas, Bernard (Bonnie) Gonyo, Harold Girard, sister-in-law Linda Gonyo of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews.
