She was born Jan. 29, 1921, in Shanghai, China, where she was raised by her parents, Calistro and Henrietta Digmanese, and schooled by French nuns; learning Chinese, French and English. She and her oldest daughter, Cathie, survived World War II under dire conditions in Shanghai with the support of her dear friend, Zina Roth. After her first husband died, she met an Air Force pilot, Lt. William Weixel and they married in Bangkok, Thailand in 1950. In Plattsburgh, she and her husband adopted three children, Mark, Donna and Bruce. She lived in Plattsburgh, N.Y., for 50 years prior to moving to Charlottesville.
Kay was an avid quilter and won many blue ribbons for her beautiful quilts at the county fair. She enjoyed meeting with her friends at her Quilters guild, and teaching others how to quilt. She was very creative and also loved to sketch, paint and make jewelry.
