Angelo's Story

Angelo Joseph Abbruzzi, formerly of Rouses Point, N.Y., passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Irmo, S.C., on July 9, 2017. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the oldest child of Anthony J. and Viola Kemp Abbruzzi. He graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1962 and also Clinton Community College. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the US Postal Service as postmaster of the Rouses Point post office in 2001 with 35 years of service. He was also a proud member of the Rouses Point American Legion. Following his retirement he and his wife moved to the Carolinas to spend time with their children and grandchildren where he was an active spectator and proud Papa in all of their events.
Mr. Abbruzzi was an avid gardener, woodworker, stamp collector and loved the great outdoors. He loved to boast of his 10 foot tomato plants and his pride and joy of his gardens. He was also a devoted husband, fantastic father, absolutely wonderful Papa and the best brother and uncle ever. He volunteered for many years helping the under served file their income taxes. He was a member of Our Lady of Hills Catholic Church.
Angelo is survived by his wife of 50 years, Suzanne, his daughter, Dr. Gina Abbruzzi Martin (Carl), son John Abbruzzi, his granddaughters, Taylor James (Matt), Sydney and Olivia. He is also survived by his brother, Anthony Abbruzzi (Nancy), sisters, Angela Buffett (David) and Mary Louise Rostak (Edward), sister-in-law, Karen Froehlich and brother-in-law, Fred Froehlich along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Viola Abbruzzi, in-laws Henry and Margaret Froehlich, brothers-in-law, David, Daniel, Richard and his nephew, Joseph Anthony Rostak.
A Mass of Christian burial was conducted by Father John Murray on July 13, 2017, at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church. Final Commendation and Farewell prayers were held at noon at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, S.C.
Rest in peace our dear Angelo. We will love you always and forever.
