Alvina's Story

Mrs. Alvina "Honey" Light, co-founder of Lights Jewelers in Plattsburgh, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, at her home, rejoining her beloved husband, Andre Armand Light.  
Honey was predeceased by her parents, Derrick and Lillian (Fountain) Venne, Andre Light, her husband of 64 years, and their daughter, Andrea (Mrs. Roger) Bouchard; her siblings, Genevieve (Mrs. George) Laundry; Lillian (Mrs. Everest) Rabideau; Geraldine (Mrs. Simon) Bedard; Albina (Mrs. George) Lysaght; and her brothers, Derrick and Robert Venne. She was also predeceased by in-laws Mildred (Mrs. Ben) Kirk; Maynard (Lois) Light; Napolean (Frances and Theresa) Light; Jeanne (Mrs. Ray Dwyer and Mrs. Charles Farrington); Anita (Mrs. Jerome) Lemieux, Yvonne (Mrs. Andy) Herkalo; Valeda (Mrs. Bill) Kavanaugh; and Robert Dalton.
She is survived by their two children, A. Thomas Light and his wife Susan of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Gregory Joseph Light and his wife Diane, of Plattsburgh, N.Y. She also leaves five grandchildren: Lisa Light-Brown and her husband Jeffery of Tallahassee, Fla.;  Michelle "Mickey" Light-Myers and her husband David of Randolph, N.J.;  Thomas Andre Sam Light and his wife Yvonne of Hattiesburg, Miss.; Jessica Lynne Light Riley of North Greenbush, N.Y.; and Brandon Derrick Light and his wife Alicia, of Boynton Beach, Fla., as well as eight great-grandchildren: Zachary, Ryan and Cameron Brown; Taylor and Sydney Myers; Samantha and Zachary Light; and Nolan Patrick Riley, as well as one great-great-grandson, Braydon Jackson Craft, and her sister, Ramona Venne Heruska and her in-laws, Theresa Venne; Dr. Alfred and Ella Light, and Bernadette Dalton, as well as several nieces and nephews and a special niece, Bonnie Dorman of Merrills Inlet, S.C.
Special thanks to her dedicated long-time caregivers, Lee Burdo, Terry Hicks and Sharon Brewer.
Born in Plattsburgh on June 18, 1923, Honey was a life-long resident of Plattsburgh who enjoyed interior decorating. She also collected hundreds of dolls and amassed an amazing collection of "Gone With The Wind" movie memorabilia.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Entombment will be at the family mausoleum at St. Peter's Cemetery.
