Alfred's Story

Alfred E. "Al" Duprey, 76, of Pine Street, Keeseville, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017, exactly 18 years to the day his mother was called home, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, Plattsburgh.
He was born in Plattsburgh, August 31, 1940, the son of Alfred and Dorothy (Relation) Lackey.
His father died in a car accident when he was an infant and his mother married Charles Duprey Sr. who adopted Al and his older brother, Arthur.
Al went to Plattsburgh school until the 8th grade at which time he left school to travel the country. He hitchhiked across the US several times.
He joined the Navy because he wanted to drive a submarine. When he found out he couldn't do that, he left the Navy and moved to NYC where he was a cab driver. He left NY and moved to Tallahassee, Fla. in 1965. He was a very successful business owner and left his mark on many houses and businesses in Florida.
Upon his mothers passing in 1999 he returned to the North Country and settled in Keeseville. He ran Als Painting and Repair until his health forced him to retire.
Al lived life to the fullest. He was married and divorced 13 times. He loved to party and loved his Crown Royal. He was always up for an adventure.
Survivors include his daughters, Deborah Purdy, Cheryl (Brad) Carte, Shasta (George) Johnson; his son, Charles "Chip" Barnaby, his children and grandchildren, Eric (Sarah) Dixon and their children; grandchildren, Cortney Ashline, Shelby Duprey, Jake Purdy, Annabelle and Tucker Johnson; great-grandchildren, Emmitt Ives and Summer Ashline; sister, Mary (Robert) Morowski; and several nieces and nephews; and wonderful friends and neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Carl Woods Sr. and Sandy Clodgo.
In addition to his parents; Al was predeceased by step-father, Charles Duprey; brothers, Arthur Duprey, and Charles "Sonny" Duprey Jr.; nephew, Brent Duprey; and son-in-law, Robert J. Purdy.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 124 Clinton Street, Keeseville. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m., in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. William G. Reamer, officiating.
