Alan G. "Al" Brault, 87, of the Brand Hollow Road, Peru, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017 at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Plattsburgh, June 6, 1929, the son of Albert G. and Olive Anna (Favro) Brault. Al grew up in Plattsburgh and studied at St. Peter's and Mount Assumption. He graduated from Dannemora High School.
Following graduation Al enlisted in the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Randolph (CV-15) in the Mediterranean Theater of Operation during WWII. He served until his honorable discharge, July 2, 1948. Following his military service he studied for two years at Champlain War College.
Al worked at Montgomery Ward in Plattsburgh for 29 years. He then went back to school and received an insurance brokerage certificate and subsequently worked in the field. He served as the Town of Peru Assessor for 26 years. He retired at age 74.
Al was an active member of the Peru Community Church having served on several committees, former member of the American Legion, was associated with the Boy Scouts of America serving as chairman of Troop #49 committee, served as chairman of the Peru Youth Commission for several years, volunteered for the R.S.V.P Program, and sang with the Cumberland Bay Chorus. He enjoyed watching his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, helping and supporting others, stamp collecting, golfing, and jigsaw puzzles.
Left to cherish the memory of Al are, his loving wife of 53 years, Dawn (Cromie) Brault, whom he married August 17, 1963 in the Peru Community Church; four sons, Dennis and Susan, Gregory and Deborah, Scott and companion Sara St. Louis, and Steven; two sisters, Barbara DeSimone and Adele Sams; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; Sara's three children whom he considered as his grandchildren; his only sister-in-law, Gail (Larry) Gonyo; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents; he was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Donald and Edith (Brand) Cromie.
Relatives and friends may call from Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Peru Community Church. Burial will be private in the Peru Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Peru Youth Commission or the Peru Community Church.
