William H. Forrence

William H. Forrence, 94, of Peru, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at CVPH in Plattsburgh.
He was born in Keeseville, New York on Nov. 3, 1924, the son of Virgil H. Forrence Sr., and Helen (Rogers) Forrence. He graduated from Keeseville High School and spent a year at the Cascadilla School in Ithaca.
William returned to Peru and joined the family business, Forrence Orchards, where he was the president of Forrence Cold Storage until retirement in 1997.
He will be remembered as a stalwart member of the Peru Community Church, the Republican Party and the Peru Lions Club. His most consuming civic commitment was the Peru Cemetery Association, which he ran for many years after his father relinquished the reins.
William served on the Board of Trustees of the Clinton Community College for 31 years, a period that began with the College's founding and included significant growth of programs, facilities and enrollment. He held many officer positions, including Chair, and was honored with the Distinguished Service Award by the Association of Boards of Trustees of the Community Colleges of the State University of New York in 1986. In December 2014, he received an honorary degree from the college.
On April 16, 1949, William was married to Marjorie Jane Patterson of Willsboro. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year but Marjorie predeceased her husband in February.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Suzanne and James Martin of Marietta, Georgia, and Peter and Cornelia Forrence of Peru; his grandchildren, W. Henry Forrence of Peru, Leila Forrence of New York City and Christopher Martin of Marietta, Georgia; his sisters-in-law, Fiona Forrence of Plattsburgh and Grace Uhlig and her husband John of Willsboro; and his cat Fred.
In addition to his wife and parents, William was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses, Roger, his first wife, Connie (Mason) and his second wife, Angela (Bryant) Forrence of Peru, Jean and Marvin Pritchard of Newburgh, Virgil H. Forrence of Peru and Rosalind and Bill Carpenter of Nantucket, Mass.
The family thanks the dedicated caregivers who, with warmth and gentleness, helped both Bill and Marge through their last years - Rachel, Linda, Debby and Betty.
There will be no public calling hours or services. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Peru Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Clinton Community College and the Peru Cemetery Association.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055. To offer an online condolence, share a symbolic gesture, or share a photo in memory of Bill Forrence please visit www.hamiltonfuneralhome.com

To The Forrence Family,
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Forrence family. My late wife and I shared many good times with Bill and his family. I am sure if there is an orchard in heaven you will be there with that big smile greeting people. RHIP my friend.
