William's Story

William J. "Bill" Bingel, 68, formerly of Tremblay Avenue, Plattsburgh, died Monday, August 7, 2017, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Plattsburgh, May 18, 1949, the son of Carl and Frances (Ryan) Bingel. Bill grew up in Lyon Mountain and graduated from Lyon Mountain High School in 1967. He continued his education at SUNY Canton, earning an Associate's degree in 1969 after which he studied business administration at SUNY Plattsburgh, earning his Bachelor's degree in 1975.
He married the former Karen M. Tolosky, August 19, 1972 at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain, N.Y. She predeceased him March 18, 2011.
Bill served the majority of his career in Clinton County, most of which was as the Clinton County Administrator, retiring in 2004. In this role, Bill developed his collaborative approach to working across political lines, an impressive skill in any line of work. He was actively involved in many charitable causes, most notably helping to organize a fundraising golf tournament for Clinton County Hospice/Hospice of the North Country, a cause that was near to his heart. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. 621, as well as the Knights of Columbus.
Bill enjoyed golfing, fishing, Yankees baseball and driving the North Country to find the best berry picking spots. He loved his family and cherished time with friends. He could tell endless stories about the colorful characters he encountered that would make anyone smile and laugh.
Left to cherish the memory of Bill are, his companion, Cathleen Hotaling and her family; his children, Amanda J. Bingel and her partner Rachel Iverson of Voorheesville, N.Y. and Curtis W. Bingel of Plattsburgh; his siblings, Anita (Bob) Scott of Roswell, Ga. and Michael P. Bingel of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by several other relatives, most notably his cousin Bernard Bingel of Binghamton, N.Y., with whom he was particularly close.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Church, Broad Street, Plattsburgh. Committal prayers will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
