William "Bill"'s Story
Mr. William J. "Bill" McBride Sr., 87, of New Hampshire Road, Plattsburgh, N.Y., and formerly of Troy, N.Y., passed away peacefully Thursday, March 23, 2017, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility with his loving family by his side. He was born in Troy, N.Y., on March 16, 1930, the son of John L. and Mae (Ryan) McBride Sr. Bill graduated from Siena College and was general manager of Bumstead Chevrolet in Troy, N.Y. He purchased the Santa Chevrolet Dealership in 1970 and changed the name to Bill McBride Chevrolet and later obtained the Subaru Franchise where he was president of the company. He served on the Plattsburgh Air Force Base Liaison Committee, Key Bank and National Savings Bank Boards, Chairman of the Board at CVPH Medical Center and many other boards. Bill was named Irishman of the Year in 1976. Bill was an avid golfer, enjoyed all sports and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of and Past President of the Plattsburgh Noon Rotary Club and St. Peter's Church.
Bill's wife of 61 years, Virginia "Ginny' (Manory) McBride, later passed away on April 26, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mae McBride, a son, William "Billy" McBride Jr., his brother, John L. McBride Jr. and a sister, Mary McBride Gamble.
He is survived by a son, Brian McBride of Plattsburgh, a daughter, Maureen Enos and her husband Ed of Clifton Park, N.Y., five grandchildren, Dr. Katherine Enos, Carolyn Enos, Pharm D and Joey Enos, Madison McBride and Bradford McBride, a daughter-in-law, Scarlett McBride of Peru, as well as several nieces and nephews
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, at St. Peter's Church, Plattsburgh, N.Y., for both Bill and his late wife Virginia, who passed away April 26, 2017.
Entombment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Plattsburgh.
