Velma G. Locklin, 97, of Cumberland Head Rd., Plattsburgh, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
She was born in Chazy on Dec. 13, 1919, the daughter of Frederick and Jenny (Tusa) LaVigne.
Velma married Clifford Locklin, who passed away in April of 1996.
She enjoyed bowling, knitting and crafts; later in life she loved spending time with her family. In October of 2016 Velma was honored with an award as the oldest living Alumni of Chazy Central School.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Frederic and Laraine Locklin of Cumberland Head, Plattsburgh; grandchildren, Shaun Locklin and his wife Heather, Daniel Locklin and his partner Maritza Ramos, Sharon Johnson; seven grandchildren; and her niece, Janis Hoy.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Gerald LaVigne, Kenneth LaVigne, and Fred LaVigne; and a granddaughter, Jennifer.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. David Wood of Lincoln Vt. officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Chazy. After the services a reception will be held at the home of Fred and Laraine Locklin's.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Chazy Central School Foundation, Hospice of the North Country, or the local SPCA.
