Velma Elizabeth Bosley

August 18, 1921 - March 22, 2018

Velma Elizabeth Bosley Velma Elizabeth Bosley, 96, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2018 in Clintonville, N.Y., in the home where she was born on August 18, 1921 to Albert E. and Dora B. (Arnold) Arnold.
She began her education in a one-room schoolhouse taught by her mother. She graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1938. She went to work as a secretary and stenographer for the FBI in Washington D.C., where she worked throughout the war years, later transferring to the Albany bureau.
She married Lyle A. Bosley in the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Albany on Sept. 25, 1954. They moved to Utica, N.Y. where Lyle worked as a weathercaster for WKTV. They raised their family of four boys in a home they built in the town of Deerfield. She later returned to her career, working for the State of New York until her retirement in 1984.
After retirement, she and Lyle lived in Sarasota, Fla. in the winter and on the family farm in the summer. She faithfully and lovingly cared for her mother until her death in 1990. Lyle predeceased her on April 19, 1997.
In 2000 she moved back to the farm with her son, Jim, who lived with and cared for her until her death. She loved her family, and enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren and other relatives, and neighbors and friends. Her kindness and concern for others who were less fortunate endeared her to us all.
Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, William Bosley and Deborah (McGaffick), missionaries in Senegal, West Africa, James Bosley of Clintonville, N.Y., Thomas Bosley and Sherida (Jeffrey) of Los Angeles, Calif., and Robert Bosley and Donna (Vollmer) of Vernon, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Bronson, Brent, Claire Velma and Carah Arin Bosley, of Vernon, N.Y., Brian Bosley of Simi Valley, Calif., and McKenzie Jeffrey of Los Angeles, Calif.; as well as several nieces and nephews, Joan (Mrs. Harry) Valentine of Madbury, N.H., Janet Swenson of Charlotte Amalie, USVI, and Ronald Swenson of Lenoir, N.C.; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Vivian Joyce, and Glenice (Swenson); and by two brothers, Milton and Vernon, both of whom died in childhood.
A celebration of Velma's life will be held Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 2 PM at the Clintonville United Methodist Church. A reception will follow at the Peru Community Church Fellowship Center.
