Thomas J. "Tom" Thornton, 89, of Rt 22 in Willsboro, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Detroit, Mich., Nov. 5, 1927, the son of Eugene and Rose (Finnegan) Thornton.
Tom served in the U.S. Air Force and was a World War II veteran. He was privileged to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington, DC to visit the veteran's memorial. Tom spent many years selling Electrolux vacuum cleaners and many summers working and volunteering at Poko-MacCready Camps. His greatest joys in life were spending time with family, friends, and his dogs. Tom was often seen with camera in hand capturing precious memories. He served on the music ministry team and was Elder of the Healing Waters Church of God.
Left to cherish the memory of Tom is his wife of 45 years, Marjorie (Brunk) Thornton; children, Rose Thornton (Tom Diefendorf), Linda Thornton, Jane (Bob) Tavelli, Kathy Blaise, Dale Martin, Tammy Palmer, Jeff (Laurie)Thornton, Phyllis Martin, Heidi (Pete) Palmer, Heather (Mahmoud) Moussa, and Jamie (Matt) Moore; along with 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Tom was predeceased by his parents; brother, Eugene; sons, Thomas Thornton Jr. and David Thornton; daughter, Betty Simmons; and granddaughter, Denise Diefendorf.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kermit Lavigne presiding.
