Thomas Craig Morton, Sr.
Thomas Craig Morton Sr. of Brainardsville, N.Y., passed away on April 23, 2019, at his home under the loving care of his wife and Hospice of the North Country. He was born on Nov. 11, 1943, in Ogdensburg, New York and adopted by Thomas B. Morton and Rita Moses Morton.
After graduating from Franklin Academy High School in 1964, Tom went on to work at various jobs for the State of New York including the State Police, Department of Agriculture and Markets, and the Department of Corrections. He retired from the Franklin Correctional Facility in 2004 with 25 years of service and 39 years of overall state employment.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Barney; two children, Thomas Craig Morton Jr. (Cathie Bashaw) and Tonya Collins (Scott Collins); a granddaughter, Sofie, and a grandson, Nolan.
He will be remembered by his family for his loyalty, devotion and involvement coaching little league baseball, his support of the local 4-H program, and for being his daughter's favorite stable hand at numerous horse show competitions.
Tom had a deep connection with wildlife and the outdoors. He passed on his love of motorcycling to his son, a passion Craig still pursues to this day. Tom enjoyed fishing, small game hunting, and exploring winter rails on snowshoes or cross county skis. In his later years, Tom's favorite hobbies included riding his ATV on back country trails, tinkering in his wood shop, and taking pictures of the animals that visited his rural home near Chateaugay Lake.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay, N.Y.
