Steve Major, 72, of Rouses Point, passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 at his home. He was born May 6, 1945 in Valleyfield, Quebec, the son of Lucien and Simonne (Lebeuf) Major.
He served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. He married Cynthia Houle in 1989. He was a Lieutenant at New York State Department of Corrections in Gouverneur. He retired from the Department of Corrections in 2003.
Steve was an avid coin collector. He loved his Marine buddies and his friends. He was a member of the Amvets and the V.F.W.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Major; his father-in-law, Maynard Houle; and one niece, Ashley Houle Redner.
Left to cherish the memory of Steve are his wife, Cynthia Major of Rouses Point; one son, Alan Major of Malone; three grandchildren, Mackenzie, McKaylee and Madison; one nephew, Jean Major and his wife Nicole Brouillette; his niece, Sylvie Major and her husband Rolland Maheux; his brother-in-law, Tim Houle and his wife Joey of Michigan; three nieces, Michelle Houle, Kristen Houle and Jennifer Houle; and his mother-in-law, Angeline Houle.
A funeral service will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers.
