Shirley A. Taylor, 79, of Route 11, passed away on Aug. 22, 2017, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Mooers Forks, N.Y., on Aug. 1, 1938, the daughter of Fred Manor and Frances LaValley.
Shirley married Philip Taylor on July 2, 1975. Together they owned and operated Phil's Chevrolet in Ellenburg Depot for numerous years. Following his passing in January of 1998, Shirley continued to operate the dealership up until her passing. She was always present at the "garage" to say hello and oversee the daily operations, and she was also always available to help anyone at anytime who may have been in need.
She was an avid supporter of her community, Northern Adirondack Central School and the students. Donations of sporting equipment, a new scoreboard, and numerous other gifts were very important to her. Shirley was a very giving woman and her commitment to the community will be forever missed.
Those left behind to cherish her memories include her children, Beverly Nichols and her husband Eddie of Churubusco, and Brian Rabideau and his wife Mary of Ellenburg Depot; her siblings, Margaret Spoor, Richard "Dick" Manor and his wife Leona, Manya Dupree, Hilda DeCoste, Susan Spoor and her husband Melvin, Donald Manor and his wife Jane, Karen Begore and her companion Alan Genereux, Brenda Rabideau, Mike Manor and his wife Janet, and Shelley LaBombard and her husband Ronnie; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Rowe and Alma Trippi; brother-in-law, Billy LaCount; six grandsons, Timothy (Wendy) Nichols, Jason Nichols, Bradley (Kristin) Nichols, Adam Nichols, Matthew Rabideau and Lucas Rabideau; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ashton, Chase, Ryan, and Preston Nichols; and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley also leaves behind many members of her "garage family," including, Travis Spoor, Jackie Lashway, Alan Cayea, Lorna Cordell, Bonnie Fish, David Gardiner, Mike LaBombard, Gary Cayea, Luke Ero Jr., Paul Parent, Dylan Messier, Aaron LaTray, Justin Spoor, Patrice Jarvis, Collin LaBombard, and Jay Ventre.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Philip Taylor; brothers, Glenn "Bub" Rowe and David Manor; sister, Kathleen "Midge" LaCount; and brothers-in-law, Louis "Buddy" Dupree, Ronald Spoor, and Maurice DeCoste.
At Shirley's request, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Entombment will take place with her husband, Philip, in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg Depot.
Donations in her memory may be sent to Phil's Chevrolet, P.O. Box 171, Ellenburg Depot, NY 12935, to establish a scholarship in her memory at Northern Adirondack Central School.
