Shirley's Story

Shirley A. Gonyo, 73, of the Simmons Road in Mooers, died Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, Plattsburgh, with her loving family by her side.
She was born at home in West Chazy, June 23, 1944, the daughter of Dennis and Evelyn (Matott) Yelle.
Shirley worked alongside her husband on the family dairy farm. She was a school bus driver for 34 years and worked for Northeastern Clinton Central School. She was a volunteer for the lunch program at Mooers Elementary School. She was also a volunteer walker for St. Joseph Church, escorting children to religion classes. Shirley was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxillary.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gerald G. Gonyo; children, Catherine Gonyo, Terry and Mary Guay, Michael and Tammy Gonyo, Mark Gonyo, Scott and Kimberly Gonyo, Matthew and Tricia Gonyo; nine grandsons, Nicholas Guay, Brandon Gonyo, Zachary Guay, Austin Gonyo, Alexander Gonyo, Casey Gonyo, Hayden Gonyo, Nolan Gonyo, and Noah Gonyo; siblings, Joseph and Carol Yelle, Raymond and Linda Duprey, and Barbara Jubert; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by Martha Bushey, Pricilla Dragoon, Clifford Yelle, Viola Hazen, Carolyn Defayette, and Elene Miller.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on July 19, at St Joseph's Church in Mooers, with Msgr. Joseph G. Aubin (retired), celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Shirley A. Gonyo may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, 212 Cornelia St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
