Rose's Story

Text size

Rose Aline (Eileen) Durocher Kourofsky was born on Jan. 18, 1925, at home in Clayburg, N.Y. She was a remarkable woman of intelligence and beauty, who valued the simple things, giving, caring, and loving. She made a positive imprint on all who knew her. She joined those who left before her in the early hours on December 17.
Eileen demonstrated her caregiving early. She was the oldest daughter of a large farm family, whose mother passed on way too early. Those times prepared her for years of family nurturing.
After graduating from Sallaz Academy, Eileen married Joseph "Joker" Kourofsky on June 16, 1945, at the Assumption of Mary Church in Redford and moved to Lyon Mountain. Once again, she took on the role of mothering Joker's three younger brothers.
Eileen loved reading, flower gardening, sewing, gathering family and raised eight wonderful children: Joan Ruch (Ed), Allen (Margo Wood), Stanley (Sherry Holloway), Joseph (Barbara Ozanick), Kim Ayrassian (Carl), Kevin (Carolyn Stutz), Tammy McDonald (John), and Jodi LaBarge (Dennis).
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1989, her parents Nelson and Rose Eva Durocher, her brother Nelson, her sisters Leona Clark and Maddie Yanulavich, her son Stanley and two grandsons Andrew Sucharski and Josh Ayrassian.
In addition to her children, she leaves her sisters, Rita Kourofsky (Walter), Elsie Delaney, Yvonne Hogan, Laura Delaney, Bev Morgan (Bill), and Millie Passino, her brother Ray Durocher (Noreen), her grandchildren, Shelle Bailey, Scott Kourofsky (Alison), Niki Kourofsky (Derry Staley), Kyle and Karis Kourofsky, Joseph A. Kourofsky (Casey), Alaina (John) Weare, Jeremiah Ayrassian (Shannon), Jessica Clark (Zach), Erin and Kinnon McDonald, Kira and McKenna LaBarge, and great-grandchildren, Alex, Ailyn, Josh, Maddie, Bhea, and Andi, as well as many nieces and nephews.
