Robert Stephen "Bob" Anderson, 66, of the Ahern Road, Saranac, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Hartford, Conn., Oct. 22, 1951, the son of Robert and Ruth (Miller) Anderson.
He grew up in South Windsor, Conn., and graduated from South Windsor High School in 1969. After spending many years hunting and camping in the Adirondacks, Bob and his family decided to relocate to the Great Northern Adirondacks to live in "God's Country". Bob was a stationary engineer at the Clinton Correctional Facility Power Plant for many years, retiring early in 2000.
He was a member of the Siberian Rod & Gun Club, National Riffle Association, and a charter member of Camp Deer Walk in Vermontville, N.Y. Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was the first place winner of the Happy Pike 10 fishing derby in May of 1995. He loved history, watching westerns, and Sci-Fi movies. More than anything, he loved his family, especially his four grandsons for whom he is better known as "Poppa."
Bob was a selfless and hardworking man. He never gave up an opportunity to help someone in need.
Left to cherish the memory of Bob are, his loving wife of 42 years, Frances A. (Hogarty) Anderson, whom he married on April 27th, 1976, in Riverhead, N.Y.; his children, Jennifer M. Anderson, Susann F. Anderson and her fiance Kenneth J. Davison; grandchildren, Jagger Dupee, Bowie Dupee, Owen Davison, and Silas Davison; sister, Susan Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
In additon to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Jon W. Anderson.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Lake, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Saranac Independence Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Saranac United Methodist Church in Saranac, N.Y.
