Events

Richard Earl Christie, 86, of Palm Bay, Fla., and formerly of Rouses Point, passed away Ash Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay with his daughter, Jill, by his side.
He was born March 16, 1932, in Plattsburgh, the son of Earl and Vera (Couture) Christie. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. On June 29, 1957, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Hill.
Dick worked for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad and Canadian Pacific Railway, retiring as a Conductor.
He was a member of the Montgomery Rifles Drill Team, Nor-Aqua Water Ski Club, Montgomery Hook and Ladder Fire Department, North Country Golf Club, Ducks Unlimited, Sportsmen's Club, Elks Club of Palm Bay, and American Legion Post 912. Dick loved all types of hunting and fishing, training three dogs over the years for goose, duck and pheasant hunting. A week long excursion to northern Canada to hunt caribou, reached only by seaplane, provided him with many hours of stories he willingly shared. More recently, he realized a life long dream of visiting Alaska. He was proud to be Scottish, loved golf, apple pie, playing pool, reading the comics, socializing with his family and friends, and just enjoying life.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Betty Jean; one brother-in-law, Ron O'Flaherty.
Left to cherish his memory and share his stories are two daughters, Jill Christie of Rouses Point and Kelly Christie of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Heather Marie Hill of Houston, Texas, Thomas and Ryan Campbell of San Antonio, Texas, and Jason Belrose of Rouses Point; sibling, Joyce O'Flaherty of Sacramento, Calif.; nephews, Patrick and Dennis (Marcia Finley) O'Flaherty of Sacramento. He also leaves a special friend, Harlene Paya, of Palm Bay, Fla.
Burial followed by a Celebration of Life will be held this summer in Rouses Point.

Fond memories of Dick waterskiing on Lake Champlain, of Betty Jean and of his mom and dad who were dear friends of my parents. My sincerest sympathy to the Christie family.

Just heard about Dick's passing. He was a great man with a "vice-grip" handshake!! We enjoyed many a navy "sea" stories over a cold drink. Fair winds and following seas shipmate!!
