Richard A. "Dick" Buchau, 85, of T-Ridge Lane, Mooers, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dec. 22, 1931, the son of the late, August and Mary Louise (Duckworth) Buchau. Dick graduated from high school in Bellville, Mich., in 1949. His first college degree was a draftsman's course at CTI College and furthered his college education at Cleary Community College for Business Management. Dick was also in the Navy Reserves.
Dick worked for Shanklin Corporation, in Ayers, Mass., for many years prior to retiring in December 1998. After retirement, Richard was a volunteer for JCEO for several years. He received an award from JCEO in 2002 for his contribution to Adult Programs, along with "The President's Volunteer Service Award" in recognition and appreciation of his commitment to strengthening our Nation and for making a difference through volunteer service.
He was a member of The Lions Club in Belleville, Mich., and he was a Grand Master of The Freemasonry, Masonic Temple Myrtle Lodge 89.
Dick enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, Anne Marie Claudette. He had several hobbies such as etching glass, wood carving small sculptures and had a love for building and collecting clocks. He also enjoyed reading until he became legally blind a few years ago. Dick loved to sit on the edge of his bed each morning praying, while looking at his wife's beautiful flowers which attracted hummingbirds and other creatures of God's beauty.
Left to cherish the memory of Dick are, his loving wife of 41 years, Anne Marie Claudette Buchau, whom he married on Feb. 20, 1976; children, Pamela Sue Harrington (John), Janet Beth Parody (Randy), Ann Marie Buchau (Tom), Johanne Muriel Buchau (Daniel) Girard, Tamara Lee Bates, and Celine Marie Naple (Mark); one sister, Joan Hoffemeyer (Jim); 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and nieces and nephews.
At Dick's request there will be no public calling hours or services.
The family wishes to offer a heartfelt "thank you" to Hospice of the North Country, especially their angel, Becky.
