Naomi's Story

Naomi G. (Cole) Keough, "Oni", of Route 11, Churubusco, N.Y. died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 at UVM Health Network CVPH with her loving family by her side.
She was born May 3, 1922 to Charles and Ruth (Moore) Cole.
Naomi was a quiet, gentle, loving and independent woman who was able to live alone in the home she loved until her death. She was the caregiver to her mother and husband. It was given with unconditional love. She was a homemaker and farmer who worked side by side with her husband. She took pride in her home, cooking for family gatherings and was the very best bread maker. She enjoyed time outside mowing her lawn, snowmobiling and riding her three-wheeler.
She is survived by two sisters, Thelma Grenier of Waterbury, Vt. and Marjorie Rowe of Ellenburg Depot; and a sister-in-law, Florence Cole of Ellenburg Depot; as well as 3 generations of beloved nieces and nephews that over the years became her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Keough on March 30, 1994. They were married on Feb. 9, 1942 in St. Philomena's Rectory in Churubusco by Rev. Bernier. Naomi was also predeceased by her siblings, Bertha (Todd) Baker, Rufus Cole, Agnes (Robert) Bertrand, Clinton (Gertrude) Cole, John (Katie) Cole, Arthur (Crystal) Cole, Mary Cole, Katherine (Vernon) Rowe, Harold (Inez) Cole, Alice (Ernest) St. Thomas, Morton Cole, Eleanor Cole, George Cole and Louise Cole; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Rowe and John Grenier; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. for a funeral service with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Entombment will be at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg Depot.
Memorial donations may be made to the Churubusco or Ellenburg Depot Fire Departments.
