Monica G. Burke, 81, formerly of Chateaugay, N.Y. died, Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at the Alice Center, Malone, N.Y. Born on July 2, 1936, she was the daughter of Ernest I and Margaret (Burns) Gardner of Rossie, N.Y.
On July 9, 1966, she was united in marriage to John M. Burke in St. Patrick's Church in Rossie with Rev. Daniel Keefe officiating. He predeceased her on Oct. 12, 1990.
Mrs. Burke graduated from Hammond C School in 1954, Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Watertown in 1957, SUNY Plattsburgh in 1961 and St. Lawrence University in 1970.
She was a school nurse teacher in Gouverneur, N.Y. and Malone, N.Y. She retired in October 1999 from Franklin Correctional Facility, Malone N.Y.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, Patrick (Judy) Burke of Chateaugay; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Peter (Mary) Abbass of Carthage, Anne Burke of Chateaugay, Catherine Burke of Chateaugay; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews; as well as two cousins, Charles (Linda) Gardner and Gary Gardner of Rossie, N.Y.
Besides her husband and parents; she was predeceased by an aunt, Helen Burns.
Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 26 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following calling hours at 4 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay with Rev. Tom Kornmeyer officiating.
Burial will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chateaugay in the spring.
