Michael N. Fayette, 75, of Dannemora, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 4, 1942, in Malone, N.Y., he was the son of Vernon J. and Anna Rose (Phillips) Fayette.
He married Nancy Lee Dutton on Aug. 28, 1965, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Cincinnatus, N.Y. She predeceased him on Jan. 29, 2017.
He graduated from Chateaugay Central School in 1960 and got his bachelors degree in engineering from SUNY Delhi. He began his career as an engineer for the NYS Department of Transportation and then went to work for the Department of Corrections as the Deputy Superintendent of Administration, retiring in 1998. He continued working after retiring throughout the North Country, including on the old Air Force Base, the Narrows Bridge, Chateaugay Lake, Champlain Ferry Docks and the Imaginarium Children's Museum of the North Country.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Dannemora. He was a life member 3rd degree of the Knights of Columbus, also served as a past Grand Knight. He was a member of the Siberian Rod and Gun club, the Elmira Elks, BPOE 62 and treasurer of the Minus Ten Hunting Club. He also enjoyed playing darts with the boys at Leo's in Burke.
He is survived by four children, Susan and Steven Smith of Waterford, Conn., Michael Fayette of West Dover, Vt., Elizabeth and Michael Crawford of Chateaugay, N.Y., Timothy and Rebecca Fayette of Mechanicville, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Fayette, Hayden Smith, Anna Smith, Ainsley Crawford, Drew Crawford, Colton Fayette, Avery Fayette; two brothers, Hugh Fayette and Kathy of Churubusco, Ted Fayette and his wife Monique of Colonie as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Fayette.
Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Thursday, January 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Dannemora on Friday, January 26 at 10 a.m.
Burial will take place at a later date.
