Mary Elizabeth Rankin


Mary Elizabeth Rankin, 91, of Chateaugay, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 at University of Vermont Medical Center at CVPH, Plattsburgh.
Born on March 1, 1927 in Needham, Mass., she was the daughter of Francis John and Mary Elizabeth (Nyland) Manning. They predeceased her.
She was married to Arthur Rankin on Aug. 14, 1956, in St. Joseph's Church, Needham, Mass.
Mary graduated from St. Bernard's High School in West Newton, Mass. She studied music at the Nazareth College in Rochester and earned her master's degree at the Boston Conservatory College. She started working as a music teacher in country schools before moving to Chateaugay Central School when it opened. She retired in 1988 after 33 years of teaching. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay, and a member of the church choir. Mary loved music and enjoyed playing her electric organ every day. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband of 62 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn and Terri Rankin of Chateaugay, Matt and Sherry Rankin of Malone; 12 grandchildren, Ashley, Brooke, Derek, Christopher, Sierra, Robert, Nicole, Morgan, Ally, Kyrn, Kayleigh, and Jordan; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Florence and Jack Garner, Alana Tomicello; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Laurie Ann Marshall.
Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 20, from 4 to 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, in St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay.
Spring burial will take place at St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay.
