Marie's Story

Marie Lucienne Lafountaine, 98, went to the arms of the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Essex County Nursing Home. She was born in Lacolle, Quebec, on Oct. 21, 1919. On the third of May, 1939, she married her husband, Joseph Lafountaine, and together they owned and operated the Chazy Hotel for a time. They then moved to Champlain, N.Y., where they opened the Maple Inn Restaurant. Mr. Lafountaine passed away Dec. 8, 1955, leaving Lucienne to operate the restaurant and cabins on her own for 35 years.
Along with her husband, Lucienne was predeceased by her mother, Anna Pinsonneault (Laroche), her father, Dominic Pinsonneault, and her five brothers, Nartbert, Dolard, Paul, Omer, and Delphise Pinsonneault. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A brief visitation will take place at St. Mary's Church in Champlain at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Mary's Cemetery on Church Street.
