Madeleine's Story

Madeleine L. Pombrio, 90, of Nevada Oval, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Oneonta, N.Y. on Jan. 4, 1927, the daughter of Norman and Eva (Boulanger) Laramie.
Madeleine attended Plattsburgh Business School and later went to work at Northern Insuring in Plattsburgh for many years as a bookkeeper, retiring as the office manager.
Following the passing of her first husband, Edward Richardson, she married David Pombrio on July 13, 2002 in St. Peter's Church.
Madeleine enjoyed singing and playing the piano in her spare time. She was proud to have taught her granddaughter how to play the piano. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing and spending time in her garden. Madeleine will also be remembered for her love of animals. She rescued numerous cats and dogs and opened her home to those no one wanted.
She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church, an Altar and Rosary Society Member and a member of the Catholic Daughter's.
Survivors include her husband David Pombrio of Plattsburgh; daughter, Cindy Richardson Evans and her husband James of Plattsburgh; one sister, Anne and Robert Smith of Plattsburgh; her nieces and nephews (whom she considered like her own children), Laurie Sparks, Cathie Smith, Martha and Bruce Poland, and Christopher and Amy Smith; step-children, John and Donna Pombrio of Mystic, Conn., Jim and Lisa Pombrio of N.J., Pat and Luke Dyer of Buffalo, N.Y., Richard Pombrio of Champlain, and Sue Pombrio of Plattsburgh; grandchildren, Kaitlin Evans, Kimberly Evans and Lauren Evans; nine step-grandchildren; and six step-great- grandchildren.
Madeleine was predeceased by her first husband on Dec. 15, 1999, and one grand daughter, Kaitlin Evans.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9 am in St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Madeleine's memory may be made to the local food shelf or to the local humane society.
