Leona F. Ashline, 92, formerly of Chazy Lake, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 at the Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with family by her side.
She was born in Plattsburgh on June 1, 1925, the daughter of the late Clayton and Freida (Badger) Brooks.
Leona was employed at SUNY Plattsburgh for several years and was a parishioner at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, gardening, joking, having an occasional beer, and especially sitting at the kitchen table with her family. Every Christmas, she rewarded her family with a homemade Christmas wreath and a hand carved Christmas ornament which everyone cherished.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Bernadette Poirier of Florida, Charles and Susan Ashline of Tupper Lake, Edward Ashline of Chazy Lake, Melinda Skiff and companion, Dana of Florida; her siblings, Gertrude O'Brien of Corning, N.Y., Clayton "Sonny" Brooks and companion, Eileen Brassard of Chazy Lake; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Ashline in 1978; a daughter, Cheryl Kalinowski; and her sisters, Valeda Rabideau, Marjorie Demarais, Shirley DuBrey; and a daughter-in-law, Denise Ashline.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial of Christian will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 at 11 am at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
