Leigh's Story

Text size

I, Leigh Steven Chilton was called home and greeted by loved ones who passed before me, Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, from the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh. My loving family were by my side as I departed. My beautiful wife and I resided on Helene Way in Peru, prior to my passing. It was not easy to say goodbye, but I was a lucky man in this life, and lived a very fortunate existence. For this I am grateful.
I was given the gift of life on August 23, 1945 at my family home in Ellenburg Center.
The love of my life stood by my side for 52 years through better and through worse, sickness and in health. Barbara (Caron) Chilton was my very existence and she was the reason for all my strength. The bond and the love we had will forever live on for eternity.
During my life I worked for Georgia Pacific for 42 years. I played a whole lot of golf, showed horses, enjoyed hunting, visiting Florida in the winter time, rode my Harley motorcycle, went camping, walked and took car rides with my best little companion "Harley" and above all loved life. I loved spending time with my family and friends and wouldn't have changed anything for the world. Even though I am gone, I will always live on in the memories that everyone will keep close to their heart.
I am survived by so many of my loved ones. My two loving daughters, Tammey (Chilton) Drollette and her husband, Wayne, and Kim Chilton and her companion, Todd Poupore; my granddaughters, who are my pride and joy, Katelyn and Kelley Drollette; my granddaughters companions, Drew Costigan and Evan Holland; two sisters, Connie Donah and husband Robert, and Mary Cayea; brother, Steven Chilton and wife, Debbie; my loving wife's siblings and their spouses, Alan and Leona Caron, Linda and John Aubin, and Leda and Lincoln Collins; and my many special nieces and nephews.
I was predeceased by my parents, Steven and Lillian (Arno) Chilton; mother and father-in-law, Andrew and Rita Caron; brother, Dale Chilton; sister-in-law, Judy Pierce; brother-in-law, David Caron; and brother-in-law, Sam LaMar.
At my request, there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in my memory, Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 at 11 AM at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Rev. Scott R. Seymour will graciously celebrate my Mass. A celebration of my life will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, beginning at 3 PM at the West Plattsburgh American Legion Post 1619. My family will rest my remains in St. James cemetery, in the spring.
Donations in my memory may be made to the North Country Cancer Fund, c/o Rod Provost, 484 Wallace Hill Road, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
