Judith C.

Judith C. "Judy" Gallinger, 84, of 8 Lake Forest Drive, Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, Plattsburgh with family by her side.
She was born in Norwich, N.Y., on April 20, 1935, the daughter of Paul and Lillian (Southren) Combs and spent her childhood in Claverack, The Bronx, Belvidere, N.J., Hillendale, Pa., and, later, Cortland, N.Y. She graduated from Cortland High School in 1952 and Cornell University in 1956, completed a Cornell summer course for an Intensive Teacher Training Program and taught third grade for 2 years.
Judy married Robert J. Gallinger, whom she met at Cornell, in June 1957 and the family traveled often as Bob attended Air Force pilot training and was transferred to Strategic Air Command bases in Alabama, California, Maine and Puerto Rico.
The family moved to Peru, N.Y., in 1973 when Bob was transferred to Plattsburgh AFB. Judy earned a MS in Education at SUNY Plattsburgh in 1978 and worked many years at the Family Support Center at the base providing clients with marriage counseling, employment assistance and citizenship classes. Judy retired when the base closed in 1995.
In 1978, Judy suffered a spinal-cord injury in a car accident that left her with lasting physical limitations. In spite of that, Judy continued to be a selfless servant to her community and friends. For many years she was a vibrant member of the Peru Community Church, Friends of the Peru Free Library, Literacy Volunteers of Clinton County, The St. Augustine's Soup Kitchen, Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network and the Plattsburgh YMCA aquacise class.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Robert J. "Bob" Gallinger; her three children, David of Hudson, Colo., Jon "Tim" of Arlington, Va., Kathleen Maldonado of Waltham, Mass.; four grandchildren, Lyndsay of Denver, Colo., Angela Secchi of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Olivia Maldonado and Victor Maldonado of Waltham, Mass.; and one sister, Deborah C. Fox of Freeville, N.Y.
In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her brother, Jeffrey Combs of Cazenovia, N.Y.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12th, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Peru Community Church in Peru, N.Y., with a reception immediately following at the church's Fellowship Center.

Judy was such a special gentle person. I have known her for several years when I would come to take care of her feet. I am saddened at the news of her passing. Prayers for her husband Bob, and her family. She is in the arms of the Father and free of pain. Rest easy my friend.
Love ,

I met Judy and Bob as a teenager at square dancing. They were always very good to me. And always helped others. My heart goes out to the family for their loss.

I was so sorry to hear of Judy’s death. She was a caring and generous lady. I met her at water exercise and we became friends. I will miss her. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
