Joseph G. Firlik III, 78, of 25093 Sanford Road, Calcium, passed away suddenly May 25, 2017, at his home.
Joe was born on March 26, 1939, in Albany, N.Y., son of Joseph G. Firlik Jr. and Janet Sullivan Firlik. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1957.
He moved to Plattsburgh where he worked as a Volkswagen mechanic. Joe also worked for his father who owned and operated Firlik Film Express, delivering movies to theaters all over Northern New York. Most of his life he drove tractor trailer for Anchor Motor Freight Co and later worked for Walmart.
Joe enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, boating and rebuilding Volkswagen cars. Joe was also a member of the Elks Club in Watertown.
He is survived by two daughters: Diana (Patrick) Mullen, Watertown, Kathy Woolf and her companion, Todd Schofield, Adams Center, a son Joseph G. Firlik IV and his fiancee, Kelly M. Hayes, Mexico, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Sani) Yamout, Ashley (Zachary) VanGaasbeek, Jason Firlik and his companion Tara Spencer, Jordan Firlik and her companion Jeremy Irey, Taylor Woolf; and six great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by three brothers: Jeffrey (Luanne) Firlik, Williston, Vt.; James Firlik, Port Henry, N.Y., Jerry (Denise) Firlik, Elmira, N.Y., seven sisters, Joyce Frenia, South Hampton, N.J., Janet Barry, North Syracuse, N.Y., Jackie Baker, Port Henry, N.Y., Jill (Jeff) Stonecash, Fernandina Beach, Fla., Judy Pepper, Vancouver, Wash., Joanne Kordziel, Wilmington, N.Y., Jennifer (Richard) Diamond, Hudson Falls, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
Also among his survivors are his fiancee, Mary Lou Tesmer with whom he enjoyed traveling with and spending winters in Hudson, Fla.; her two sons: Kevin Tesmer, Arizona, Teddy Tesmer, California, and her two daughters: Joanne Valdez, Colorado, and Christina Mills, Watertown, N.Y.
Besides his parents, Joe is predeceased by a brother, John Firlik and a sister, Juliet Hurley.
Calling hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown, followed by a 1 p.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. Burial will then follow at the Sanford Corners Cemetery.
