John E. Recore Sr.,68, passed away peacefully at his home in Plattsburgh on March 10th, 2018, with his loving wife and family by his side. John was born on Nov. 8th, 1949, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to the late Herbert A. Recore and Ella (Stay) Recore. In May 1970, he married the love of his life, Barbara Bell. John was a dedicated husband, father and community member, spending countless hours coaching youth baseball and organizing multiple tournaments and outings for the youth of Clinton County for over 35 years. He was an extremely proud member of the Knights of Columbus of Treadwell Mills. He enjoyed many activities including fishing, collecting coins, watching old westerns, family vacations and special trips away with his beloved Barbara. John bravely faced and fought to overcome cancer, open heart surgery and kidney failure. The Recore Family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the HK Freedman Renal Center for the many years of special care they provided. John was a proud local small business owner, working mainly in grocery retail for over 45 years; he and Barbara owned J&B Grocery and J&B Butcher Shop. John was also employed by Imperial Wallpaper for 12 years until its closing. He took great pride in providing excellent customer service and was awarded numerous top honors for being one of the nation's top salesmen during his 17-year career with Kraft General Foods. He will always be remembered for his witty and upbeat sense of humor.
John is survived by his devoted wife of over 47 years, Barbara and their four sons: John Jr. and wife Michelle, Todd and wife April, Jason and Kelly, Jeremey and wife Jennifer. John is also survived by his twin brother Jim (Shirley); brothers Herb Jr. (Donna), Donald (Dawn), and Andrew (Star). John will dearly miss his 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren of which he was extremely proud; Ashley (Joshua) with their children Gavin, Payton, Jaylen, Addyson and Ella; Alyssa; Tevin Conners (Alexis) and their daughter Halo; Andrew (Bridgett) and their son Landon; Joshua (Kelcie) and their children Bentley and Phoenix; Austin (McKennzie) with baby Recore; Conner, Ryan, Nikolas, Matthew, Jeremy Jr., Jakob and Bryson. John also leaves behind his beloved "Aunt G.G." who he considered a second mother. He also leaves behind many cherished extended family including nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m.; members of the Treadwell Mills Knights of Columbus will hold a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. funeral service at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make a donation to the family to help assist with medical expenses.
