John L. "Red"/"Jack" Maloney, 89, passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 17, 2017, at his home in Willsboro, with his loving family by his side.
He was born on March 13, 1928, the son of Louis and Margaret (Nelson) Maloney. Jack graduated from Keeseville Central School in 1946. He enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served until his honorable discharge in 1955.
Over the years Jack held many jobs, often more than one at a time. He worked as a logger; a boatman for the AuSable Chasm Company; Town Councilman for the Town of AuSable; NYS Department of Corrections; and for the USPS as a rural mail carrier, to name a few. He often talked about his favorite job of logging in the woods alongside Bill Sullivan. Jack retired from the NYS Department of Corrections in 1981, following 25 years of service. He retired from the USPS in 1988 following 21 years of service.
Jack was a devoted family man with an amazing sense of humor and a great work ethic. He was a Charter Member of both the Keeseville Elks Lodge and the Keeseville Knights of Columbus.
Jack attended Mass daily and his faith was evident in the way he lived. He always managed to connect with the people he met and get "their life story." A stranger was someone he had yet to meet. Jack enjoyed playing golf with family and friends. He played his last round of golf in March of this year at the age of 89.
Jack was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Horrigan) Maloney, his parents Louis and Margaret (Nelson) Maloney, as well as his brothers, Alan and Nelson Maloney.
Left to cherish the memory of Jack are, his four children: sons, Louis Maloney and his wife Pammy, Patrick Maloney and his wife Peggy, Michael Maloney and his wife Susan; as well as daughter, Kathleen Barber and her husband Richard. In addition, he is survived by his eight grandchildren: Robert John "RJ" Maloney, Mathew Maloney, Katelyn Blair and her husband Nathaniel, Daniel Maloney, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Maloney, Margaret Barber and her fiance Nicholas Rock, Madeline Barber, and Mason Barber.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville, N.Y.
