John "Jack"'s Story

John "Jack" Miller, 99, of Ollivetti Place, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Detroit, Mich., on March 30, 1918, the son of the late Emil and Kathryn (Calihan) Miller.
Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He then attended Paul Smith's College in Saranac Lake where he graduated with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Following graduation, Jack met the love of his life, the former Jacqueline "Jackie" Reiss, in Lake Placid. They married in Roosevelt, Long Island, on June 28, 1953. After returning to the North Country, Jack worked for the Prudential Life Insurance Company in Plattsburgh, selling life insurance. He retired in August of 1980 after more than 25 years of service. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and the Knights of Columbus.
Jack enjoyed boating in Saranac Lake and was an avid North Carolina Tar Heels fan. He was known for always sporting his "Carolina Blue" color. Above all else, was the love for his family. Jack cherished the time he was able to spend visiting with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Jacqueline "Jackie" Miller of Plattsburgh; six children, George and Sandra Miller of Plattsburgh, Kathryn Cayan of Sparta, N.J., Michael Miller of Plattsburgh, Bonnie and Patrick Greenwood of Columbia, S.C., James and Marilyn Miller of Littleton, Colo., and Scott Miller of Raleigh, N.C; 15 grandchildren, Hillary Miller, Matthew Miller, Kristina (Chris) Luciano, Ashley (Dan) Rosenblum, Sarah (Casey) Pisano, Brittany Cayan, John Greenwood, Michael Greenwood, Breanna Greenwood, David Greenwood, Kristin Greenwood, Kaytlin Greenwood, Avery Miller, Lilah Miller, and Colin Miller; four great-grandchildren, Bella, Brody, Brielle, and Reed; and dear family friend Diana Cron.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday in St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Chazy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
