Joanne Douglas, 83, of Durham, N.C., died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, peacefully in her sleep at home.
Born in Chateaugay on April 10, 1935, she was the daughter of Frank and Anna (Granger) Douglas. Both predeceased her.
Joanne graduated from Chateaugay High School and Russell Sage College and majored in Nursing. She spent her entire career as a Registered Nurse at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C., retiring after over 35 years of dedicated service.
She never married. She enjoyed returning to the North Country every Spring and Fall to visit family and experience the changing of the seasons. Joanne loved reading, collecting antiques, gardening and her cat, Katie.
She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Jay and Melanie Douglas of Chateaugay, Cindy and Kevin Gale of Moira, Lynn and Jim Harrigan of Chateaugay, Cheryl Douglas and John Cook of Malone, David Douglas of Malone, Peggy and Gervin Johnston of Chateaugay, Quebec, and Larry Douglas of Rouses Point; as well as several great-nieces and nephews and their families.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Pauline Douglas, George and Rose Douglas; two nephews, Ronald Douglas and Stephen Douglas.
Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Brian Dwyer officiating.
Burial will take place in Eastside Cemetery, Chateaugay.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country or the Chateaugay Historical Society.
