Joan (Joanie)'s Story
My mother, Joan (Joanie) G. Hard, 89, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., went to be with her God peacefully at Elizabethtown Community Hospital on March 2, 2018. She was born in Greencastle, Ind., March 10, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Pauline and Ralph Morris. Joanie graduated from Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she earned a teaching degree. Joanie was a dedicated and caring home health care aide, a long time employee of North Country Home Services, Plattsburgh, N.Y. She retired at the young age of 85. Her quick smile and words of encouragement were appreciated by her clients. Joanie was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene. She loved music and could often be heard singing favorite songs at karaoke with her life long friends.
Joanie is survived by five children, Stephen Squire and his wife Dori of Miami, Fla., James Squire and his wife Theresa, David Squire, Jerry Squire all of Old Town, Fla. and Sharon Squire and her wife Natalee Byers of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; her sister, Rosemarie and husband John R. Pell of Brazil, Ind.; another sister, Virginia Phillips of Ind.; and many nieces and nephews in Indiana and Florida.
Joanie was predeceased by her husband, Mederick Hard and first husband, Charles O. Squire.
In accordance with her wishes there will be no calling hours. There will be a private gathering of friends and family. Joanie will be interred next to her mother in Indiana at a later date.
