Jeffrey's Story

Text size

Jeffrey G. "Jeff" Bailey, 51, of the Mace Chasm Road, Keeseville, N.Y., lost his brief battle with kidney cancer at sunrise on Dec. 26, 2017. He passed away in the palliative care unit at UVM, in the loving arms of his sisters Jennifer Hanlon, Suzanne Leonhardt, and his cousin Catherine Giglio.
"Jeff" was born on Nov. 16, 1966, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to parents George Arthur Bailey and Marie Derenberger Bailey. He was a 1984 graduate of AuSable Valley Central School. Upon graduation, he was a Harley Davidson mechanic at North End Repair for ten years, then worked at Schonbek Worldwide Lighting for fifteen years before becoming self employed for the previous six years as a Master Handyman and Property Manager of real estate that he purchased and renovated.
During Jeff's time at Schonbek Worldwide Lighting he was a "zero down time specialist" and traveled across the USA for Schonbek, doing high end residential and commercial installations of beautiful lighting as well as set up trade show displays. He was proud of his first responder certification as well as his ability to stay calm under pressure. Concurrently, he worked at Port Kent Campsite alongside his aunt, Mary Bailey, for many years. Jeff loved animals, he was always the guy who would adopt neglected or homeless animals. At the time of his death he left behind his cat, Douglas and a dog, Ridge.
Jeff was a man of integrity, gentle character, and curiosity; he had a wealth of knowledge on many subjects. Jeff was known for his infectious laugh, mischievous smile, and generous spirit. He was concerned about others until his last breath. If a friend needed help, Jeff was there to help. Jeff was a person everyone got to know because he was the "fix it" guy. He enjoyed teaching people of all ages how to do things and had a special patience for children and elders. He loved to cook, and would often tease his sisters by texting them photos of his pies and meals. He canned his own tomatoes using tomatoes grown in his garden. He loved to be the grill king and loved a good meal after a hard day's work.
Left to cherish the memory of Jeff are, his father, George Arthur Bailey and stepmother Ewa Bailey of Keeseville; sisters, Jennifer Hanlon of Island Pond, Vt., Suzanne (Bret) Leonhardt of Melbourne, Fla., Sara (Jude) Perkett of Keeseville, and Tina (John) Timmons of Syracuse; stepbrother Jakub Szumski of Keeseville; nieces and nephews, May Hanlon, Kyle, Ansley and Seth Leonhardt, Ridge, Chasm, Keene, and Ledge Perkett, and Misty Timmons; aunts, Mary Bailey of Keeseville, and Judith Derenberger of Fort Meyers, Fla.; many cousins; and his longtime companion, Johnna Willer and her son, John Esquerre.
Jeff was predeceased by his mother, Marie (Derenberger) Bailey.
