Jeanne's Story

Jeanne S. Davis, 84, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Monday, August 28th at CVPH Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Robert Earle Davis with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Jeanne was born in Williamsport, Pa. to the late Arthur and Harriett (English) Shoemaker.
She grew up in Little Falls, N.Y. and Latham, N.Y.; a graduate of Watervliet High School and Buffalo State Teacher's College.
Jeanne taught home economics in various high schools while Bob completed his medical education. She then made her family's home in Plattsburgh where she was a devoted mother and active community volunteer. She held many positions as a member of the First Presbyterian Church, was a board member of Cornell Cooperative Extension, president of the CVPH Women's Medical Auxiliary, and volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
Jeanne's passions included flower and vegetable gardening, gourmet cooking and entertaining, sewing, and darkroom/photography. She enjoyed canoeing and camping with family and the "canoe trip group". She was an avid reader and loved her book club friends. Over 50 years, priceless memories were made at Camp on Upper Saranac Lake.
Besides her husband, Jeanne is survived by her children, Karen and Keith Midkiff of Brownsburg, Ind., Susan and Ted Sanford of Colchester, Conn., William and Natasha Davis of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Norma and Kenneth Buckwald of Phoenix, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Katie, Hannah and Andrea Midkiff, Luke and Jeremy Sanford, Nikita, Peter and Alex Davis.
Jeanne was predeceased by her daughter, Kimberly Ann Davis; brother, William Shoemaker; and her parents.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, August 31st from 4 to 7 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Funeral service will be held Friday September 1st at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception in Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Chazy, N.Y.
