Janet Brendler, 83, of North Farm Road, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at the CVPH Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Arlington, Mass., on May 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John and Elda (Baldacci) Stone. As the eldest child of a World War II U.S. Army Colonel's family, Janet had many places that she called home and where she attended school, including the Philippines and Fort Bliss, Texas. She attended Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md., and became a Registered Nurse, an occupation that came to define her as a person.
She worked as a nurse in Maryland, Massachusetts, and Vermont before settling with her family in Chazy, N.Y., where she worked for 20 years in the practice of Doctor George Clark, the town's physician. After retirement in 1995, Janet and her husband volunteered for another two decades, at the Alice T. Miner museum in Chazy, and for the Chazy Public Library.
She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, George Brendler, and by children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family (and their spouses): sons Joseph (Teresa) Brendler of Annandale, Va., John Brendler of Chazy, N.Y., Stephen (Debbie) Brendler of Bluffton, S.C., and daughter Elizabeth (Joe) Tedford of Saranac, N.Y.; grandchildren Joseph Brendler Jr. of Vienna, Va., Jeanette Brendler of Missoula, Mont., and Joshua and Carrie Brendler of Bluffton, S.C.; brothers John (Mattie) Stone of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Daniel (Mary) Stone of Osprey, Fla.; aunt Hilda Rohman of Brookfield, Ill.; uncle Bruno Baldacci of Novelty, OH; and numerous cousins. Janet was predeceased by her parents, John and Elda Stone, of Worthington, Ohio, and brother, Peter Stone of Copperas Cove, Texas.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Her ashes will be interred in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Chazy, in the spring.
