James H.

James H. "Jim" Durgan, 86, of State Route 22, Peru, died unexpectedly, Monday, May 20th, at home.
He was born in Peru, Dec. 18th, 1932, the son of Harry and Ethel (Lewis) Durgan. He lived most of his life in Peru, but traveled with the Air Force to New Jersey, Louisiana, North Carolina and Greenland. Jim graduated from Keeseville High School in 1950. He married Eleanor T. "Ellie" Boudrieau on Oct. 4, 1953; they celebrated 62 wonderful years together.
Jim was proud of his six children, fifteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, along with his many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, riding his Honda Gold Wing, and above all his horses.
His first job was working on his family farm until he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and was a jet mechanic during the latter part of the Korean War and beyond. Jim used to get a kick out of saying he was in the Air Force for 9 years, 9 months and 9 days! This past September, Jim was honored with many other veterans as he participated in the North Country Honor Flight to Washington D.C. After being honorably discharged, he went to work as an auto mechanic. Jim then went to work at Plattsburgh Air Force Base as a civilian until his retirement.
Jim was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and was an active member of the St. Augustine's parish.
Among the many surviving relatives is his sister, Maude Durgan Hoke of Wells, Maine; five daughters, Pamela and husband James Russell of Massachusetts, Wanda Wallace of Albany, Mary and husband Dexter Clemons of Peru, Kathleen Corrigan-Dumas and husband Barron of Malone, and Deborah McTiernan of Ipswich, Mass.; and son, James and wife Darlene Durgan of West Chazy. He is also survived by his loving friend, Shirley Bell of Plattsburgh. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor "Ellie" Durgan, his parents, Harry Durgan and Ethel (Lewis) Durgan, his brother, Robert "Bob" Durgan; and sons-in-law, William Patrick Corrigan III and John Lawrence McTiernan.
