James "Wayne" Cook, 74, of Mason Street, Morrisonville, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, Plattsburgh.
He was born in Plattsburgh, on June 9, 1944, the son of Ralph and Gladys (Torrance) Cook.
Wayne has been a local all his life except for a stent in the U.S Marine Corps from 1961-1970, a Vietnam Veteran. After his Honorable Discharge, he returned home to the North Country where he lived on Mason Street the rest of his life. He had five children, three of them boys that also served in the Marines. Some may remember him at Jack Liberty's Garage of Peru or Garrands Toyota, but most know him from the bus garage at Peru Central School where he had some of his closest friends and worked there for over 30 years until his retirement. Wayne was always "hard worker" and would keep going and going and going. Whether helping a friend or neighbor fix something, or just doing plain chores, everyone remembers him for his mechanical abilities. Wayne Cook has helped and touched many lives in his 74 years and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include four of his children, Mac Cook, Yvonne Scibetta, Todd Cook, and Christine Barcomb.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his son, Wayne J. Cook and brother, Vernon Cook.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, April 4, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. Military Honors will be held in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel at 7 p.m. Burial in the spring will be private.
Donations in memory of James Wayne Cook may be made to North Country Honor Flight, P.O. Box 2644, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

The first time I met Wayne I was being interviewed by him for the mechanic position at Peru School. He read my name on my application which I had filled out as William Robert Rock. After the interview was over he look at me and says “well I guess I got me a Billy -Bob now. That name stuck from that day on. Everyone calls me that that knows me from the garage. Wayne your one of the best friends a man could ask for. May you Rest In Peace Marine “Semper Fidelis”
