James Richard Anderson


James Richard Anderson, 85, of Baltimore, Md., passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at his residence.
Born in Malone, N.Y., on Dec. 28, 1933, he was the second son of Donald and Doratha (Stewart) Anderson.
Jim attended Malone schools growing up and graduated from Franklin Academy High School, Salutatorian in his class. He then attended Syracuse University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and after his discharge he accepted a job with the City of Baltimore Department of Social Services as a counselor. During this time he received his Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. After 35 years of service with social services he retired in 1995.
Jim enjoyed outdoor life, spending time at the family camp on Mountain View Lake. He was a dog lover, avid reader of historical works and sailed his boat on the Chesapeake Bay. After retirement he enjoyed ushering and assisting at the historic cathedral, The Baltimore Basilica.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his long-time companion, Jack Horner.
Survivors include Jim's brother, Donald, and sister-in-law Ann (Duquette) Anderson, Plattsburgh, N.Y., three nieces and a nephew, Beth Myerly, Malone, N.Y., David (Pam Reinhardt, M.D.) Anderson, M.D., Plattsburgh, N.Y., Sarah (Dave) Yeager, Huntingtown, Md., and Dora (Mark Peeney) Anderson, Albany, N.Y.; seven great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nephews.
A service will be held at a later date.
Donations in his memory may be given to the Malone House of History.
