Irvin Rodney Gero Irvin "Rodney" Gero, 88, of Cadyville, N.Y., passed away on Nov. 7, 2018, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Saranac on July 31, 1930, to Wilfred and Mae (Staley) Gero.
Irvin was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army where he served two years in Germany. After his retirement from the Military, he made his living working as a civilian at the PAFB until it closed in 1995.
He was married to the love of his life, Mary, for 47 years until her passing in 2013. After Mary's passing, Irvin adopted his beloved dog, Mitzy, and cat, Angel that kept him busy and smiling. Irvin's wife, daughters, grandchildren and family, along with his pets meant the world to him. He was an avid participant in many rodeos, horse shows and races. Irvin took great pride in his horses and has many awards.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary (2013); adopted daughter, Patricia; and a sister, Kay Louk; and his stepson, Steve (Petey), that he loved dearly. They spent a lot of good times together.
He is survived by his brother, Joseph; daughters, Brenda Shook and husband, Steve, Tammy Plumadore and companion, Stacy; grandchildren, Jennifer, Chad and wife, Marcee, Sara and husband, Bradley, and Cayla and husband, Robert; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Erika, Brenyn, Henry, Micah, Mason, Savanah, and Chloe; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora with the Rev. John M. Demo, celebrating. Military Honors will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Irvin R. Gero may be made to his daughter, Brenda L. Shook.
