Text size

Ira R. Snow, 80, longtime former resident of Pruyn Hill Rd., passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22nd, in the comfort of his residence. Born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Jan. 7, 1937, he was the son of Edgar and Cecilia Giroux Snow.
Ira retired from G.E. Silicone in Waterford after 21 years as a forklift operator and prior to that he had worked with the Local 106 as an operating engineer. He also was a part time police officer with the Mechanicville Police Department for 8 years.
He had a passion for anything that had a motor. Snowmobiles, motorcycles, airplanes were especially some of his favorites. He was a handyman/"jack of all trades" who was never afraid to take on a new type of repair. He also enjoyed garage sale shopping. He turned many garage sale junkers into perfectly running machines.
He was a 30 year member of the Mechanicville-Stillwater Elks Lodge.
The most important thing in Ira's life by far was the time he spent with his family. He loved his wife Pat, was proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments and adored his great-grandchildren.
Ira was predeceased by an infant son, Kevin Oswald Snow.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lawliss Snow, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this upcoming October 5th. Also his daughters, Tamie (Mark) Snow-Becker and Lisa (David) Altamura, both of Mechanicville, Patti(David) Grabowski of Bel Air, Md., grandchildren Kasie Altamura, Zachary (Sarah) Conerty, Sonia(Anthony) Altamura Coppollo, Ryan(Janette) Conerty, Sara Snow-Bramski, Kevin Altamura, Adam Snow-Bramski, Katelyn(Rick) Hopeck and Kimberly Becker(Carlos), great-grandchildren Kayla, Gabriella, Keegan, Ruby, Alec, Addison, Samuel, Owen, Ivy, Quinn and Joseph, and his brother, Gary (Kathy) Snow of Morrisonville, N.Y. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed by his faithful Shih Tzu "LuLu."
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26th, at Corpus Christi Church, 2001 U.S. 9, Round Lake, NY 12151, with an hour of gathering in the church following the Mass. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in St. Alexander Cemetery in Morrisonville, N.Y. In lieu of flowers and to honor Ira's love of children, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in his memory.
