Herman "Diddy"'s Story
Herman J. "Diddy" Rabideau Jr., 86, of Route 11, passed away, Monday, June 11, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Mooers, N.Y. on June 24, 1931, the son of Clara and Herman J. Rabideau Sr.
During his younger years, Diddy worked on the family farm and later went to work for the Clinton County Highway Department. He retired as a construction foreman after 36 years of service. During his retirement, Diddy worked closely with his son Terry at the Chateaugay Funeral Home.
Diddy loved to be outdoors riding on his tractor or gator, going hunting, boating, and fishing with family and friends. He had even served as a safety instructor, teaching others about hunting safety and was also a snow sled instructor. One of Diddy's favorite hobbies was growing Christmas trees that provided a holiday tradition for many local families. Diddy was proud to have traveled through all 50 states, but the traveling he enjoyed most was the "Sunday Drives" and the time spent with his wife and children.
Diddy was a hardworking, devoted and caring son, husband, brother, father, pepe, uncle and friend. He will forever be remembered by all those who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years whom he married August 9, 1952 in St. Edmund's Church, Rhoda Rabideau of Mooers Forks; four children, Danny Rabideau and his wife Dianne of Mooers Forks, Duane Rabideau and his wife Mary of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Bonnie Marmora and her husband Paul of Anchorage, Ak., and Penny Pitts and her fiance Paul Rush of Mooers Forks; two brothers, Harold (Shirley) Rabideau of Mooers Forks, and Rufus Rabideau of Ellenburg Depot; four sisters, Jane (Jim) Forkey of Mooers; Marilyn (Gerald) Gadway of Mooers; Edith (Robert) Surprenant of Mooers Forks; and Marie Trombley of Mooers Forks; eight grandchildren, Tracy Rabideau and husband Todd, Trevor Rabideau and partner Todd McCarthy, Darcy Rabideau and wife Melissa LaClair, Taylor Pitts, Alexis Pitts, Renata Marmora, Lauren Rabideau, and John Rabideau; five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Darbi, Emma, Ellie and Eli; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Terry Rabideau on June 7, 1994; brother-in-law, Charlie Trombley; sister-in-law, Rita Rabideau; and niece, Donna Surprenant Coryea.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 14th from 3 p.m to 6 p.m. at the Rabideau Funeral Home, Ellenburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 15th at 11 a.m in St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg. Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg Depot.
