Genevieve Tavernia, 79, of Stony Acre Dr., West Chazy, died Thursday, April 18, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family, loving pet Nala and aided by Hospice of the North Country.
Born on Oct. 28, 1939, in Fort Covington, N.Y., she was the daughter of George and Simone (Gebo) Patterson.
She was married to James Tavernia on Nov. 10, 1956, in St. George's Church, Burke, with Father Stone officiating. He predeceased her on May 29, 2005.
Mrs. Tavernia was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafting and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by five children, Charlotte Broeker and her husband, Brian of Malone, Carolyn Gokey and her companion, Scott Silver of West Chazy, Lillian Tavernia and her companion, Chet Wares of Malone, Jeffery Tavernia and his companion, Michele Oehler of Hopkinton, Glenn Tavernia and his wife, Kellie of Malone; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six brothers and sisters, Dale Patterson, Johnny Patterson, Pearl LaRock, Linda Collette and her husband, Jerry, Rose King and her husband, Dick, Dorothy Lowell; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; a son, James Tavernia Jr.; a granddaughter, Brandy Tavernia; three brothers, William, Donald and Warren Patterson and a sister, Charlotte Patterson.
Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, in St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay.
Burial will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chateaugay.
Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the SPCA or Hospice of the North Country.
