Gary Titherington

July 13, 1968 - September 23, 2018

Gary Titherington was born on July 13, 1968, in Montreal, Quebec. He passed away in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sept. 23, 2018, after passionately scoring the winning hockey goal for The Clarity Jets. Gary "100%" enjoyed this team; loved the sport: loved his teammates, and the camaraderie. He gave nothing less than "100%" during his lifetime.
Gary graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1986 and ventured on his own to a city where his heart belonged-Boston, Mass. He studied and graduated in 1991 with a dual degree in both finance and business from Northeastern University, where he met his life-long best friends, Jay Greenless and Scott Warland. While attending Northeastern, Gary was both vice president and treasurer of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He never stopped learning and years later obtained a Master's of Arts and Liberal Studies Administration and Leadership from Plattsburgh State University.
Gary's professional affiliations in the North Country of Plattsburgh, N.Y., included serving as Vice President of Mold-Rite Plastics, (a company started by both of his parents, Geoffrey and Wyn (Burns) Titherington), and acting as business manager of both Geoffrey's Pub and Treadwell Bay Marina. The communitarian that he was, Gary served on many boards and committees in the North Country including President and Chairman of the board of the North Country Chamber of Commerce.
In 1993, Gary married the love of this life, Karen Stiles in a private ceremony in Jamaica. Shortly after, in honor of the Lord, they celebrated the sacrament of marriage in the Sacred Heart Church, Castleton, N.Y. Recently, Karen and Gary celebrated their 50th birthdays and 25th anniversary on a monumental trip to the Pacific Northwest. The highlight of that trip was bicycling through Stanley Park and then taking in all the sites from Seattle's Space Needle. Walking hand in hand in Vancouver and Seattle, two unfamiliar cities, will never be forgotten. It was the simple things that Karen and Gary enjoyed the most. Gavin wrote the following to sum up his dad...
"Gary Titherington was everything that could ever be desired in a husband, a father, a friend and mentor. He never had a frown on his face, nor had he ever looked at the negatives in any situation life threw at him. He was a problem solver, loved by everyone who came into contact with him. He did not have one bad bone in his body. He did what he loved, and loved what he did. He golfed and he loved golf, he played hockey and loved hockey. He spent countless hours watching teams he loved: The Bruins, The Celtics, The Patriots and the Red Sox. He was a true Boston fan. He went to every game he could and loved every game he went to."
As my mom would put it: It was always about the game! A true sportsaholic!
Gary is survived by his wife Karen (Stiles) Titherington, his son Gavin and daughter Gwen and beloved puppy Bruin!
Gary is also survived by his father Geoffrey Titherington, mother Wyn Burns and stepfather Maurice Burns, sister Diane and her husband Patrick McCarty, brother Jeff and (Rhonda Dergham). His older brother Paul Titherington predeceases Gary.
Sister-in-law Lisa Stiles-Roy (David), sister-in-law Kim Titherington, father-in-law Elliot F. Stiles, and many nieces and nephews including: Sarah Titherington, Lisa (Titherington) Goulfine, Lori Titherington-Raville, Katie Titherington of England, Jason McCarty, Kevin McCarty, Amanda McCarty, Gabrielle Roy, and Brenden Roy.
Aside from nieces and nephews, Gary is survived by many aunts, uncles, friends and family in both the USA and England; also six great-nieces and nephews.
He will be forever missed and will always live in our hearts.

I remember when I was first becoming friends with Karen, she hosted a fun girls' night and Gary joined us for a while. He played Trivial Pursuit with us and made everyone laugh with his revised rules to make the game more fun.

So sweet memories of Gary at Broad Street School where that dazzling smile never left his face. He was great kid and obviously became a very wonderful man. God must have needed him in heaven to bring him home so soon. Much sympathy to all his family and friends.

We had great memories of Gary as we were involved for years. With various hockey teams that our sons participated in while residing in Plattsburgh . we are so sorry for your loss!
