Florence "Flossie"'s Story
Florence (Flossie) Emily Hathaway, 93, of Raleigh, N.C., passed away on Sept. 15, 2017, at the home of Richard, Sharleen and Kylie Hathaway, 12217 Breton Lane, Raleigh, NC 27613. Flossie was born in Essex, N.Y., on Nov. 30, 1923. Flossie was married to Donald on Sept. 5th, 1944, in Muskogee, Okla. They were married for 61 years until Donald passed.
She graduated from Willsboro High School. Flossie worked as Town Clerk and Supervisor for the Town of Willsboro for 24 years. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, knitting, ice skating, ceramics, playing cards, winning at bingo, beating Dad at Hearts and reading the Bible. She was also actively involved in the Willsboro Methodist Church, and Willsboro Central School Board. She will be remembered for being: commitment to the community and church, her leadership, and friendship to everyone, making strawberry-rhubarb pie, generosity with her time, her smile, first woman Supervisor of Willsboro, N.Y., instrumental in the building of a new town hall for Willsboro; a pleasure to work with, peacemaker and a wonderful mom.
Flossie is survived by three sons: Gary Hathaway, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Richard Hathaway, Raleigh, NC 27613; Zane Hathaway, Mooresville, NC 28115; five grandchildren: Jessley, Kelley, Kyle, Aaron and Kenzie; 7 and 3/4 great-grandchildren, Brynley, Kylie, Owen, Jolene, Nora Tess and Addie, Elaina in a month, as well as other family and friends.
The memorial service for Flossie will be at 11 a.m. on September 30, at the Willsboro United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Willsboro United Methodist Church, 3731 Main St, Willsboro, NY 12996.
